Traveler

Thu Sep 11, 2008, 8:43 AM
What up Devart!?!? I spent three months going from Boston to Seattle! I have come home to good ol' massachusetts safely!!

First I will recommend something that will change your life forever. I know people say that about stuff all the time, but seriously, listen up.

couchsurfing.com is the only way to travel.

This website is similar to myspace or facebook. Except that it is far more honest and far more amazing. Get this, there are thousands of people out there who want to open their home to you and share their couch with you!! All for free too! But honestly the monetary factor is FAR down the line in importance. Meeting wonderful new friends who are excited to share the secrets of where they live with you is the real glory of couchsurfing.

I was treated like family by strangers everywhere I went. I was treated to fantastic food and incredible things I would never have found were I not with a local. I cannot speak highly enough of this amazing website and all it's positive points. Throughout three months of traveling I did not meet one bad egg. Everyone I met was friendly and so excited about life!

This trip was an absolute inspiration to my artwork and my way of life. Share all you can, love all you can, and put down the stone of grudges.

Now the real work starts!

hey all i have safely made it thru NYC and I am now having a blast in Phillie!

Highlights

Goin to the MET in NYC was amazing as always. I highly recommend this incredibly enormous museum. There is so much stuff in there you could go a thousand times and not see everything!

I went to the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors for a New Moon Gathering. This is Alex and Alyson Gray's studio/spirituality center in NYC. Quiet meditation and some very powerful energy recharged my positive energy batteries. Once again highly recommended, great art, fantastic people and mind opening experiences await you there!!

I visited the Bronx Zoo for the first time! I love goin to the Zoo!!! This one (as is pretty much everything in NYC) was huge. So much amazing stuff to see! Lions, and tigers and bears oh my! Plus frogs, and rhinoceroses, and the elusive snow leopard. Now I can't stand animals being in cages, but it clearly was evident that the caretakers do their best to provide the animals with a safe place to stay that is a solid environment, not just a cage.

Go listen to Ellis Ashbrook on myspace. They are an amazing NYC rock group that will psychedelically blow your freekin mind. These kind cats took care of me while I stayed in NYC. They are great people and killer musicians!!

So now I am in Phillie! I met up with a few old friends who went with me to Sicily a few years ago. We got some 40's and stooped it up outside my friend Janine's house (she is who im staying with out here, amazing artist and general pain in the ass but i love her!). That same night we avoided an army of cockroaches! The next night we went to an classic house party and had a blast meeting all kinds of people from Phillie and Jersey.

Yesterday Janine and I went to the Philadelphia Museum of art. While not as big as the MET the PMA has some awesome works of art. Including the building itself, which is a monument to Greek and Roman architecture. The outside of the building is the color of orange sandstone and there is a fully painted frieze in the pediment of one side of the building. This apparently caused some frenzy in the city, because we are so used to looking at the clean white marble structures of ancient Greece and Rome. What most people don't know is that the true nature of these Temples and Buildings was that they were fully painted and not pure white marble.

It has been seriously hot here so last night Janine and I just laid low and watched the Simpsons and House of Flying daggers until we passed out!

Ok I gotta get goin! Off to New Jersey today!

TRAVELLING ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!

Thu May 29, 2008, 7:58 PM
I'm leavin on Sunday to start a 3 month adventure of the United States!

I'm kinda scared! I'm WICKED excited! I'm sorry I haven't been on much lately! I'm not really sure anyone noticed but that's ok! I have been workin my butt off getting ready.

A very few of you know about the man I work for, Tom Deininger. He is a local artist in my area. He makes large scale sculpture entirely out of recycled materials. Toys, old clothes and shoes just about anything that doesn't rot like food. We take that stuff and make recreations of famous paintings and photographs and a whole bunch of other things.

Tom just recently started a T-shirt company, We Being Brand. He wanted to reach out to more people. He's not afraid to offend you and he will make you laugh!

I'm going to 9 major cities including: NYC,Phillie, Chicago, Denver, San Fran, Portland, Eugene and Seattle! I'm going to do my best to stay out of trouble! I want to see the major museums in each city! Also along the way I'm going to help promote Tom's t-shirt company. I'm going to be staying with friends, some that I knew already and some that I have met thru an amazing website, www.couchsurfing.com.

So if any of you wanna meet me in person drop me a line! I am super friendly and I enjoy adventure thoroughly!!!!

Check out Tom's work

Tuesday Feature: Monia

Tue Apr 29, 2008, 7:57 PM
This work is loud and intense. Monia chooses sharp subjects and makes excellent compositions. Each work tells its own story. Monia's mind is expansive and he is very intelligent, this is clearly shown in his work. I highly recommend taking the time to really look at these strange and wonderful multimedia images. Enjoy!

Squid is a fantastic young lady! She works very hard making her own art and promoting others. Part of the reason I have taken a more active role as a member here is because of Squid! Through her contests, news, deviations and comments she shows how important this community is to her! Her work is hilarious and very cute! Enjoy!

This yellow alien's work rides the line of sensuality and sin. That is where her charm really shows. Her line work is delicious, giving the viewer subtle tastes of delicate fingernails, lips and all the wonderful parts of human, sometimes monstrous, anatomy. Her figures are living, breathing creatures that show emotional passion. Enjoy!!

Let's Start A Gas War!

Tue Mar 11, 2008, 2:35 PM
I have been pretty quiet lately and this seemed like an excellent way to jump back in to the dA ocean!

This isn't my original idea but it sounds pretty good to me!! ~ Caleb

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit
someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one company), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If
they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers .
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION
PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we do not buy gas from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Keep it going

First off and foremost thanks to those who have visited, and those who will visit my gallery here on DA.  I appreciate feedback as I am sure most of us do!  Especially as artists, writers, musicians or any other creative mind, we use feedback to become better artists!

Please continue to give such great feedback!  I promise I will do the same!
